
'Though we are fairly familiar with America’s fruit-carving traditions, the exquisitely detailed and geometric shapes Gaku carves take the practice to another level. He’s taken to carving everything from apples, carrots, bananas, broccoli, and radishes. One tricky part of carving apples and bananas is that as soon as the peel is removed, they start to brown. Gaku must work quickly to finish his carvings and snap a photo before the fruit oxidizes and softens. If you’re wondering what he does with the fruit when he’s finished, he eats it of course.
