'The Songkran Festival has traditionally been celebrated as the Thai\'s New Year for many centuries, and is believed to have been adapted from the Sankranti Hindu festival. We celebrated the festival at Wat Thai, D.C., Silver Spring, Maryland. The ceremony called \"Rot Nam Dam Hua\" is a traditional way to celebrate with elders. Most Thai people go back to their hometowns to meet and pay respects to their elders. At Wat Thai, we celebrate for the event every year. This year we had a lot of activities from Thai Classical music, Thai Dancing, food, gifts, and much more. It is a time for cleaning and renewal. Besides washing household Buddha images, many Thais also take this opportunity to give their home a thorough cleaning.'
