
'Welcome to Val’s Sweet Kitchen! Like and subscribe to my channel. In this video, I’m going to show you how to make a Shortcrust Pastry Tart shell. This recipe is for a short 9 inch tart shell and I\'m using it in my Lemon Curd Tart. (188g) flour 1/3 c. (40g) confectioner\'s sugar 1 T Lemon Zest -you can leave this out too if you\'re making a savory crust 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 c. unsalted butter 1 large egg 1 T Lemon Juice or water Directions: Preheat oven to 350 F 1. In the bowl of a food processor put in all your dry ingredients:1 1/2 c flour, 1/3 c confectioner\'s sugar, 1/2 tsp salt. Give them a whiz to mix them up. 2. Add 1/2 c unsalted butter and mix until you get something like bread crumbs. And you want to use the blade with this. The plastic one might make you over mix it making for a tougher shell. 3. Add in 1 egg and a T lemon juice or water. Mix it just until it comes together. 4. Form it into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for an hour -- or I cheat and put it in the freezer for 20 minutes but don\'t leave it in there any longer it will start to freeze around the edges. Note: If you forget and leave it in too long, whatever you do, don’t knead it to mix the cold area into the warmer area. I did that once -- like it was bread and then wondered why it came out like cardboard. Just leave it on the counter for 10 minutes and let the temperature even out. 5. Roll it out gradually and turn it a quarter turn every so often. This will make for a more even crust and help keep it from sticking to the mat. 6. See video for trick to get it into the pan and mold it into fit as shown. 7. Dock with a fork and fill with baking beans or rice. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
