It is a smaller celebration in comparison to Powell Street Festival but has much to offer in a very well planned, well designed venue. Nikkei Matsuri took place August 31 and Sept 1. It is a little different from Powell Street Festival. Entertainment outside the building is free. Events inside the Culture Centre you need to pay admission fee of $4. Inside the Culture Centre you will find vendors, a kids play area, Martial Arts demonstrations, performances on stage and most importantly the Museum. Oden $5 One-Pot Stew with Fish cake, radish, egg. Okonomiyaki $8 Pancake with cabbage, onion, bonito flakes. Takoyaki $7 Original Total Spent at Nikkei Matsuri Admission $4 Oden $5 Okonomiyaki $8 Takoyaki $7 TOTAL $24 And now a message from Princess Takamado… Princess Takamado of Japan made a special visit to this event on her Canada tour. PRICE: $ CHEAP. Less than $10 for dishes. QUALITY: Good. Oden was small for $5. Takoyaki was good. Same Takoyaki vendor as at Powell Street Festival. Okonomiyaki was delicious. SERVICE: Good. Water fountains and washrooms inside Nikkei Centre. Fans handed out by table vendors. VERDICT: Nikkei Matsuri is a fantastic event. Lots of familiar food vendors. Okonomiyaki was not at Powell Street Festival but you can find it here at at Nikkei Matsuri. BRING CASH. LOTS OF CASH. LIMITED CARD. PAY PARKING. LIMITED STREET PARKING.
