'This is my 2020 summer food plot seed mix. It will be 40% cowpeas 20% hairy vetch 20% buckwheat 10% oats 4% t-raptor 3% chicory 3% sunflowers Correction- I meant to say austrian winter peas - that vine I show is a winter pea not a cow pea. This combination of plants will increase soil heath tremendously by fixing N from the air and mining leached phosphorous and micronutrients from deep in the soil, bringing it up to where the next plant rotation can use it. This type of crop system, using spring then fall/winter cover crop cocktails will eventually eliminate the need for any inputs such as lime and fertilizer and eliminate the need to spray for weeds. All of these plants are eaten by deer and the seeds provided and attraction to insects can provide for turkeys, songbirds and bears. The secret to a great food plot is to build the soil up to where the nutrient content and the ability to grow forage is tremendous. Anything you plant on healthy soil is high-preference to deer.'
