'(8 Nov 2015) LEAD IN: Almost every part of our bodies can be smoothed and tucked, now plastic surgeons are offering a make over for hands. The rejuvenation treatment is gaining popularity with Californian women, looking for more age-defying makeovers. STORY-LINE If you\'re pursuing a glamorous Hollywood image, attention to detail is essential and it seems and our hands are no exception. A manicure and some cream are no longer enough for people past middle age. According to doctors and beauty therapists it\'s our hands and our necks that often reveal the truth about our age. Non surgical neck lifts are already popular here and now plastic surgeons are taking care of our hands too. America\'s Food and Drug Administration has already approved the filler Radiesse for use on the back of the hands. The injectable filler is already used at beauty clinics to for facial definition and shape. This treatment is at the Lasky Aesthetics & Laser Center. Dr. Leslie. H. Stevens from the surgical team here says: \"Aside from just having age spots or deterioration of the skin, there\'s also a thinning of the skin, and with that thinning of the skin one can see more of the tendons, more of the bony structures and there is also a wasting of the muscles in between the bones.\" Stevens believes that when it comes to anti aging treatments the hands have been overlooked. Getting those youthful looking digits, can be time consuming and expensive. As well as the injections needed for each hand and the fingers, clinics also tend to use laser to get rid of aging spots and other marks. The procedure begins by numbing the back of the hand with Lidocaine to anaesthetise the nerve endings. It\'s being done by Casey Powell who explains: \"The filler is made of calcium oxaylate microspheres which is naturally occurring in our own body. As I inject it into the hands, we inject it in between the tendons and it stimulates collagen. Over time in four to six weeks, the natural tissue will fill in on its own as well as we thicken that skin. The appearance of the hands will be rejuvenated and it will last for about a year to 14 months.\" Powell claims this treatment is longer lasting and she argues because Radiesse is thicker than hyaluronic fillers, such as Juvederm, it is easily massaged into place. It usually takes less than 20 minutes to inject both hands. Client Murlen Chamtness is 56 years old and says she\'s having the treatment because she\'s beginning to feel self-conscious about her hands. Chamtness says: \"Once they put the numbing cream on, I didn\'t feel hardly anything. It was just a tiny little pin prick but it was very very minor. Even the fluid being injected in, I didn\'t feel that and then the massaging, when Casey massaged it, it actually didn\'t hurt either. The result afterwards was absolutely amazing. It\'s the difference between having a hand which looks very skeletal to having something that looks as though I had back in my twenties.\" Dr. Brent Moelleken runs his own clinic in Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara as well as being an Associate Professor at UCLA\'s (University of California Los Angeles) medicine school. He uses a combination of the filler and laser. Moelleken\'s client is businesswoman and designer Lovey Dash who is 64 years old. She says: \"I did it because I\'m in the fashion industry and I work with a lot of young people and this point in my life, I felt I need a little uplifting in my hands as well as other places and basically that is why I did it because I work with my hands. I\'m looking at fabrics. People are looking at me draping items.
