'Welcome to my TED talk! I\'m kidding! Kinda. This is a video on what the aggregate scientific literature says about healthy eating. It may surprise you that many factors don\'t really have that much effect on how you stay healthy. Calorie Balance - when evaluating a diet, that calorie balance is king. Calorie surplus generally leads to fat gain and health problems. Calories deficits over small periods of time generally lead to healthier BMI\'s and blood work. Food Composition - Where your calories come from is also important thought not as important as the amount of calories you consume. Nutrient dense foods lead to healthier individuals. Processed foods generally lead down the path to chronic disease. Macros - Way less important than you might think when considering general health. So long as at least ten percent of your food comes from each macronutrient then the rest of the food can be a mix of whatever you want it to be for the day and you can still maintain your health with good food composition and a calorie balance. Nutrient timing - Not a significant factor....unless its a strategy that helps you cut down on calories. Hydration - Drink when you\'re thirsty. Supplements - unless you are at the highest level of athletic performance these are an absolute waste of time.'See also:
